Joel Round
1879 - 1971
Joel Rundt was born on 3.12 1879 in a family of 8 children in Kovjoki. The parents were Matts Johansson Biggas (1846) and Maria Lovisa Rundt (1853). Other children; Maria Alexandra - called Sandra 1874, Johan 1877, Edvard 1882 (died-06) Ida 1885, Aina 1887, Emma 1890, Hanna 1893.
He graduated from Nykarleby Seminary school in 1903 and obtained elementary school teaching positions in Kokkola and Gamlakarleby. In 1911 he married teacher Toni Maria Forss and settled in Alberga, Espoo.
In 1912 Joel wrote "Wildlands"
In 1925, Joel was elected secretary of the Friends of the Swedish Primary School.
In 1929 he became a full-time writer.
In the 1930s, Joel Rundt was one of the most important translators of Finnish poetry into Swedish. He has, among other things, translated Sibelius' hymn "Finlandia" into Swedish.
He was called the "Poet of Silence and Light".
His poems are clearly influenced by his background, the farming community with the river, the fields and the forest.
